Kansas Prank Prompted by Social Media Escalates to Tragic Shooting
An incident that turned a light-hearted Kansas high school prank into a tragic event has brought to light the dire consequences when games are taken to extremes. Last month, a group of teenagers engaged in a “senior assassin” prank involving gel bead guns turned perilous when a real firearm came into play, leaving one teen paralyzed from the waist down.
The event, initially reported by Fox News Digital, occurred in the vicinity of a Walmart in Goddard just before 5:00 p.m. on May 11. The Sedgwick Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting that left 18-year-old Anakin Zehring severely injured with a gunshot wound to his back, hitting his kidney, liver, and spinal cord.
Anakin’s GoFundMe page stated,
“On May 11th, our lives changed forever when my son was involved in the tragic incident at the Goddard Walmart shooting. He sustained severe injuries, including a bullet wound that punctured his duodenum (upper part of the small intestine) and damaged his spinal cord, causing loss of sensation from the waist down. Despite undergoing four surgeries and intense medical care, his recovery journey is just beginning, and we need your help.”
The “senior assassin” game, a phenomenon stemming from social media, had high schoolers ‘assassinating’ each other using gel bead guns and water guns. It’s not uncommon for participants to share their experiences on various social platforms.
The calamity unfolded when Zehring and his friends shot their gel-bead guns at two teenagers outside the Goddard Walmart. Discrepancies arose regarding who fired the gel blaster, but it is undisputed that their actions led to the escalation of events.
Following the gel-bead gun incident, one of the targeted teenagers informed her father, Ruben Marcus Contreras, of the situation. Contreras, armed with a real firearm, located Zehring and his friends in a Chevrolet Spark in the Walmart parking lot. This is where the prank took a deadly turn, resulting in Contreras discharging his handgun into the vehicle, gravely wounding Zehring.
Contreras has since been charged with first-degree attempted murder for his actions.
As of this report, Zehring’s GoFundMe has garnered $12,074 towards their goal of $50,000. The fundraiser’s plea states, “Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to ensuring he gets the care and support he needs. We are eternally grateful for any assistance you can provide. If you cannot donate, your prayers and shares of this campaign are equally valuable in spreading the word.”
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences when harmless pranks turn serious and underscores the importance of handling such situations with restraint and wisdom.

Teen’s Shocking Confession: Family Tragedy Unfolds in New Mexico
A tragic event unfolded in New Mexico as a young teenager, reportedly under the influence, confessed to a horrific crime. In the early hours of Saturday, the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office received a chilling 911 call from 16-year-old Diego Leyva. According to reports, Leyva admitted to the dispatcher that he had killed his entire family.
The New Mexico State Police Department provided further details, stating, “When deputies arrived, Diego walked out of the residence with his hands in the air and was extremely intoxicated.” The authorities took Leyva into custody without any resistance.
Inside the home, deputies discovered the bodies of Leonardo Leyva, 42, Adriana Bencomo, 35, Adrian Leyva, 16, and Alexander Leyva, 14. All had succumbed to gunshot wounds. Following his arrest, Leyva was transported to a nearby hospital for detoxification before being booked into a juvenile justice center in Albuquerque.
Leyva now faces four counts of first-degree murder. The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau, along with their Crime Scene Team, has commenced an investigation to determine the motive behind this devastating act.
Adriana Bencomo, one of the victims, was known for her dedication as a volunteer firefighter with the Rio Communities Fire Department. Her contributions over the years have left a lasting impact on the community.
In response to the incident, the Valencia County Fire Department issued a statement on behalf of the Rio Communities Fire Department: “The Valencia County community experienced a tragic incident yesterday morning. New Mexico State Police has arrested and charged a suspect with the homicide of his family.”
“Our brothers and sisters at Rio Communities Fire Department are shocked and saddened by this loss as expected,” the statement continued. “We thank the community for its ongoing support, and more information will be put out when it becomes available.”
The community is grappling with disbelief and sorrow. Vanessa LaGrange, a former teacher of the suspect, expressed her shock, saying, “I would never have thought that something like this would happen and that Diego would be capable of doing something like this.”
In a show of solidarity and mourning, students are reportedly planning to wear black at school to honor the victims.

Miami Homeowner Defends Property From Fleeing Crash Suspect
A Miami homeowner found himself in a tense situation when a stranger trespassed into his backyard. The incident unfolded after Whitney Liberal, 34, was reportedly involved in a car accident on Interstate 75 near Northwest 186th Street. According to police, Liberal and two others fled the scene of the crash, with Liberal eventually jumping a fence and entering a residential property in the 18000 block of Northwest 91st Court.
The homeowner, alerted by his dog’s barking, noticed that a ladder had been moved to lean against a wall in his backyard, which borders the interstate. Concerned for his safety, the homeowner armed himself and confronted Liberal around 6 a.m.
Police reported that the homeowner fired two shots when Liberal allegedly refused to show his hands, striking him in the leg.
“My neighbor was on the balcony with a gun and a lantern,” shared neighbor Alfonso Nieto, describing the dramatic scene.
The homeowner, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed his surprise at the situation.
“It’s the first time in 30 years, and thankfully it wasn’t robbing — it was him escaping from something he did before.”
Liberal later informed investigators that he was trying to call his girlfriend to pick him up after fleeing the crash scene. He also mentioned sustaining a foot injury during the accident.
During their search, police discovered marijuana and pills resembling ecstasy in Liberal’s possession.
As of Monday afternoon, Liberal was receiving medical treatment for his injuries and was in the process of being booked into jail. He faces multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance, trespassing, and possession of cannabis.
The incident has left the community in shock, as noted by neighbor Ofelia Martinez.
“It was shocking because nothing like that ever happens in this community.”

Children’s Harrowing Escape: Gunfire Erupts in Home Under Siege
On a seemingly ordinary Tuesday morning in DeKalb County, Georgia, a harrowing incident unfolded as four children found themselves alone and under siege in their own home. The attack, which occurred on Overlook Avenue, involved gunmen opening fire on the residence, forcing the children to scramble for safety.
The children’s mother, who had just left the house with her 14-year-old son, believes the assault was a retaliatory act. She explained that her son had recently been involved in a school altercation, where he was attacked.
“We left at 9:45. My daughter was calling me at 9:52 screaming in the phone,” she recounted, detailing the brief window of time between her departure and the terrifying call she received.
The 11-year-old daughter bravely recounted the ordeal, describing how bullets shattered windows and pierced walls as the children ran for their lives.
“One came close to my sister, but she ducked,” she said, adding that “gunshots” were “going all through all over the house.”
Thankfully, none of the children were physically harmed during the attack. However, the emotional impact of such an event is undeniable. The house bore the scars of the assault, with bullet holes prominently visible, particularly on the upper level.
When questioned about the intentions of the gunmen, the mother expressed her belief that the attack was meant to be lethal.
“Of course, they shot 25 times in the house,” she stated, underscoring the severity of the situation.
Law enforcement was quick to respond to the scene, and evidence markers lined the street as part of the investigation. The mother shared that the police have a promising lead on the identity of the shooters, aided by surveillance technology.
“They got Ring cameras so they gonna get to the bottom of it,” she mentioned, hopeful that justice would be served.
A neighbor, who captured the incident on a doorbell camera, chose not to release the footage publicly, adding another layer of privacy to an already sensitive situation.
This unsettling event serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers lurking in everyday life and the importance of community vigilance and preparedness.

It’s sad that some idiot so called adult feels it’s OK to bring a real gun to a water gun fight. I pray that idiot using his real gun never again walks this Earth as a free man spending the rest of his life in prison. My prayers go out to the young man he tried to kill as well as his friends who witnessed this deadly assault.

the over reach of laws written by gov’t. (idiots) in Amerika, really believe they can stop natural selection. Only GOD chooses who lives and who dies. He is the giver of life. Silly man can only take life and destroy it.

There is not enough information in this article to make an informed opinion as to who is “more at fault”. After reading the immature comment, it could easily be said that the “idiot” was the person who has been watching movies like Gotcha and thought it would be a good idea to chase people around a crowded public space with realistic looking airsoft guns. Until more detailed information is provided there is no way to make an educated opinion of the “adult’s” actions.

Your brain doesn’t work fast enough to determine if a gun is real or not. Anyone that plays with guns should understand that there are consequences if not played in a private gaming area. I feel bad that this happened to the boy, BUT those games should not be allowed in the open world. The Dad was wrong in shooting at a fleeing car, so they both bear responsibility.

For every stupid action there is likely to be at least one stupid reaction, if not more. If you are the person starting something (the perp) you have given the option of the
reaction to the person you targeted. Yes, in this case, the reaction may be on the harsh side, but that’s how some people are.
