Florida Homeowner Defends Family, Stops Intruder with a Single Shot
In Lake Wales, Florida, a homeowner found himself in a tense situation after an alleged intruder entered his residence. The incident unfolded just after 11:30 p.m. when the homeowner was alerted by his dogs barking, signaling something was amiss.
Upon investigating the disturbance, the homeowner discovered 34-year-old Cameron McGuire inside his home. McGuire was allegedly in possession of some of the homeowner’s child’s belongings, which heightened the situation’s severity.
Confronting the intruder, the homeowner commanded McGuire to “freeze.” However, McGuire continued advancing toward him, prompting the homeowner to fire a shot. The bullet struck McGuire in the leg, effectively incapacitating him.
Afterward, the homeowner held McGuire at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived on the scene. Lake Wales Police Chief Chris Velasquez remarked on the homeowner’s actions, stating, “This homeowner is a law-abiding citizen and had every right to protect his family.”
Chief Velasquez further noted, “Cameron McGuire should be thankful today that he is alive and in jail. Hopefully, this was his wake-up call.” These words underscore the gravity of the situation and the potential consequences of McGuire’s actions.
It was revealed that McGuire had been released from a Florida prison in February and possesses an extensive criminal record. This background information adds context to the homeowner’s decision to act in defense of his home and family.

Florida Homeowner Defends Family Against Intruder, Takes Decisive Action
In a recent incident in Lake Wales, Florida, a homeowner exercised his right to defend his family when confronted by an intruder. The event unfolded late Tuesday night on the 700 block of South Scenic Highway, approximately 90 minutes east of Tampa.
The homeowner, John Coles, was alerted to the presence of an intruder by his dog’s barking just after 11:30 p.m. Upon investigation, he discovered Cameron McGuire, a 34-year-old suspect, inside his residence, holding some of his child’s belongings.
“He actually had my daughter’s book bag on,” Coles recounted.
Coles, a law-abiding citizen, armed himself and confronted McGuire. Despite Coles’ command to “freeze,” McGuire continued to advance toward him. This prompted Coles to take decisive action.
“I didn’t really want to shoot the man, but he kind of came forward as I was standing down here with him at gunpoint,” Coles explained. “So I shot him, and I told him don’t move again, or it’s going to be again.”
After firing, Coles held McGuire at gunpoint and contacted 911. He managed to maintain control of the situation until law enforcement arrived.
“He … sat down until the police came and actually took him out the house,” Coles noted.
Lake Wales Police Chief Chris Velasquez emphasized the legality of Coles’ actions, stating, “This homeowner is a law-abiding citizen and had every right to protect his family.” He added, “Cameron McGuire should be thankful today that he is alive and in jail. Hopefully, this was his wake-up call.”
Investigations revealed that McGuire entered the home through a kitchen window. Following the incident, he was taken to a local hospital before being booked into the Polk County Jail.
McGuire faces charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling and theft. His criminal history includes previous convictions for drug possession and domestic battery by strangulation, and he had been released from state prison earlier this year.
The Lake Wales police advised residents to ensure their homes are secure by locking all windows and doors to prevent similar incidents.

Social Media Stunt Gone Wrong: Man Faces Felony Charges
An unsettling incident unfolded at a Walmart in Mesa, Arizona, when a man allegedly filmed himself spraying bug killer on food items, leading to his arrest. The Mesa Police Department (MPD) reported that Charles Smith, 27, was taken into custody after a “reckless social media post” showed him engaging in this hazardous prank.
The incident reportedly occurred on a Thursday evening around 8:30 p.m. Smith entered the store with the apparent intention of creating prank videos for his social media accounts. According to police, he picked up a can of Hot Shot Ultra Bed Bug and Flea Killer from the store’s shelf without purchasing it.
Smith then allegedly proceeded to spray the pesticide on various food items, including fruits, vegetables, and rotisserie chickens.
“Smith filmed his face, the pesticide can, and the act of spraying. He later posted the video online,” the MPD stated.
Although the video has been removed from Smith’s TikTok account, it continues to circulate on other social media platforms. In a recent video, Smith is seen tying a bungee cord around store door handles, telling customers, “You guys are locked in there, forever.”
The audacity of the act left many bewildered, as one observer noted, “This guy sprayed toxic bug spray on produce at Walmart, and then was dumb enough to post it on the internet.”
Authorities from the MPD and Tempe Police Department quickly identified Smith as the suspect. He subsequently turned himself in voluntarily. During a police interview, Smith confessed to both the theft and the act of spraying the merchandise.
“This incident underscores the potential dangers of reckless actions disguised as social media pranks,” the MPD emphasized in their press release. They also commended their officers and detectives for their swift response in resolving the case and ensuring community safety.
Smith now faces serious legal consequences, having been charged with a felony for introducing poison, along with three misdemeanors: criminal damage, endangerment, and theft.
In response to the incident, a Walmart spokesperson informed AZ Family that all affected products were removed, and the impacted area of the store was thoroughly sanitized.

Subway Horror: Woman’s Fiery Death Sparks Safety Concerns
In a shocking incident that underscores the rising violence in New York City, a woman was tragically set on fire and burned to death while sleeping on a subway train. The New York Police Department reported the grim event, which took place on the F train early Sunday morning.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch detailed the harrowing scene in a press conference. As the F train arrived at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station, officers discovered a woman engulfed in flames. “A person standing inside the train car fully engulfed in flames,” Tisch described, highlighting the horror faced by responding officers.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and her identity remains unknown. Authorities believe that a man approached the sleeping woman and used a lighter to ignite her clothing. The suspect, a Guatemalan migrant who entered the U.S. in 2018, was arrested in connection with the incident.
In a chilling twist, the suspect reportedly stayed at the scene, watching the woman burn. A video circulating on social media shows the suspect sitting on a bench outside the subway car, observing the unfolding tragedy.
The police managed to apprehend the suspect after releasing his photo to the public. Civilians who recognized him called 9-1-1, leading to his arrest. Officers found the man with a lighter in his pocket, but he was detained without further incident.
Liquor bottles were discovered near the victim, though their relevance to the incident remains unclear. The investigation caused a suspension of the F train service well into the afternoon, with the victim’s body being removed from the scene around 1:00 p.m.
An MTA worker recounted the aftermath, noting that the woman’s clothes appeared “burnt off.” Another witness, Alex Gureyev, expressed concern over the incident, stating, “It’s going down hill a bit. Everybody keeps saying it’s going back to the seventies.”
This tragic event is part of a broader trend of increasing violence on New York City’s subways. According to NYPD data, murders on the subway have surged by at least 60% this year, painting a grim picture of the current state of public safety in the city.
